Experiences of Kim Johnson with Dery Funeral Home: A horrible experience. My Uncle passed and we had him cremated at Dery. From the beginning until today dealing with them was all about money. Today I came home from court crying. Instead of the estate paying, I was sued individually. An original bill of $3,000 became $10,000. I live on Social Security, didn't make a difference to them. As long as they get their money, they don't seem to care whether I eat or not. Attorneys and courts are there game, respect for the dead and the bereaved doesn't seem to make any difference.

Very kind! I'm greatful for there kindness

My experience with Fred Dery was absolutely demeaning, insensitive, and appalling. The moment I walked into the funeral home, he asked me who I was there to see. I told him who and I kept walking. After I got to the room he came in and "joked" to my father about the bad job he did raising me. I tried to defend myself, for I did nothing when walking in, but he continued to interrupt all of my words and berate me. I guess he was upset I wasn't smiling and wanting to have a chat with him. He then put his hand out and introduced himself. I said "nice to meet you Fred", did not shake his hand and proceeded to the bathroom where I sat and cried. When I came back he purposely was staying in the room talking with my parents and after 15 minutes came out and said "I'm leaving the room now so you can go back inside", all the while smiling at me. In retrospect, I wish I could have stuck up for myself, but I was beside myself with how he had just treated a stranger grieving her grandmother and also simply greiving my grandmother. I realize when you're around the deceased you may develop a desensitization to it, but good grief. Being cruel, making jokes that are not funny (and at such an inappropriate time!!), and talking down to me and condescendingly is not how you run a business. Hope you're enjoying all of your money you heartless jerk. Maybe you should use it to fix the broken toilet, broken ceiling tiles, and update EVERYTHING.
